Leaves of Absence and Impact on Research

    As a university professor, I am interested in universal access to health care. This interest

    has taken on many faces and the advent of personalized medicine (PM) is redefining

    the paradigm of research and practice. The PM has become a tool for approaching the

    universality of care and in 2016 and 2018 I organized 2 international round tables on this

    issue. These led me in 2019, thanks to African colleagues, to come to Africa, to Gabon to

    co-organize the 1st colloquium on PM in Africa, which took place in May 2019 in Libreville.

    The colloquium was followed by a “Livre Blanc”, useful to various university education

    authorities. With the Rectorate and the Faculty of Medicine of Libreville, I have also

    prepared sessions on Initiation to Biomedical Research, which are available to students

    wishing to do preparatory internships for biomedical research. For 2 years, my productivity

    in lung research has been interrupted due to my sabbatical and the pandemic.
